Diri Yang Tersembunyi di Balik Layar: Apa Kata Dukungan Sosial Terhadap Self Discrepancy?

Roleplay account users on social media have fostered social dynamics that encourage the formation of ideal identities while simultaneously allowing individuals to freely express alternative identities through digital interaction. This study aims to investigate the influence of social support on self-discrepancy. Employing a quantitative approach with a causal-associative method, the study involved 339 active users of roleplay accounts. The instruments utilized included the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) developed by Zimet et al. (1988) and a self-discrepancy scale based on Higgins’ (1987) theory, constructed by the researcher. The analysis indicated a significant positive relationship between social support and self-discrepancy, with a contribution of 21.3%. Higher levels of perceived social support were associated with greater self-discrepancy. This may be attributed to the expectations and social pressures accompanying such support, particularly within identity-based virtual interactions. These findings underscore the influence of the digital environment in shaping how individuals perceive and construct their personal identities.
