Unification of coordinate systems for two 3D-DIC subsystems with adjacent and non-overlapping fields of view
This study presents a method to address calibration challenges in multi-camera 3D digital image correlation (DIC) systems with adjacent and non-overlapping fields of view. By extending the image plane and supplementing uncaptured checkerboard corner points, shared calibration feature points are created without requiring overlapping areas. The pixel coordinates of uncaptured corner points are supplemented using homograph matrix deduced by captured corner points, enabling the coordinate systems unification of 3D data measured by adjacent subsystems. Experimental results show submicron measurement accuracy for ceramic plates, with smooth transitions in cylindrical morphology measurements and cross-sectional curves, confirming the reliability of the presented method. This approach effectively resolves the resolution limits of traditional multi-camera DIC caused by calibration constraints. It eliminates the need for additional equipment, reduces costs, and ensures surface continuity.
