Unveiling the Revolution: Artificial Intelligence's Impact, Struggles, and Horizon in Gastric Cancer Radical Gastrectomy

The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) technology offers novel opportunities and challenges for the precise, personalized treatment of radical gastrectomy in gastric cancer patients. This article reviews AI's applications in preoperative planning, intraoperative navigation, and postoperative management of such surgeries.Preoperatively, AI leverages image analysis (e.g., automatic tumor segmentation, lymph node metastasis prediction) and surgical simulation to boost planning accuracy. During surgery, AR - based real - time navigation, robot - assisted operations, and AI - driven rapid pathological diagnosis enhance safety and efficiency. Postoperatively, AI models monitor complication risks (like anastomotic leakage and infection) and devise personalized rehabilitation plans, improving patient prognosis. However, AI faces hurdles such as data heterogeneity, algorithm interpretability, and ethical - legal issues. Future development of multi - center data sharing, 5G - enabled remote surgery, and interpretable AI (XAI) may foster deeper integration, providing a theoretical and practical framework for AI - gastric cancer surgery convergence.
