Transforming Training with Digital Solutions: A New Approach to Developing Experts in Operations, Production Loss Management, and Well Optimization

The oil and gas industry is undergoing significant changes as digital technologies advance to improve operational efficiency. There is a shift in workforce development toward greater digital proficiency. As fields grow increasingly complex and resources become scarcer, it is crucial to urgently equip early-career professionals with practical, cross-disciplinary skills to ensure the future of oil and gas development. While traditional training models often rely on theoretical instruction and isolated domain learning, leading operators are shifting toward immersive, digitally integrated programs that simulate real-world challenges and promote a system-wide understanding of production operations. This project presents the design, execution, and outcomes of a 13-day immersive training module as part of 36 months of Production Engineering new graduates training program tailored to accelerate technical proficiency and decision-making agility among young professionals specifically in production operations. The initiative blends hands-on field activities, multidisciplinary coaching, and digital workflows to replicate real asset conditions and foster actionable learning. Participants progress from individual technical modules to collaborative Field Development Plan (FDP) formulation, leveraging actual production data and simulation tools. This approach not only bridges the gap between academic knowledge and operational execution, but also prepares participants to navigate uncertainty, prioritize interventions, and contribute to the long-term optimization of mature fields.
