Aplicación de la Escala de Aldrete en recuperación posanestésica

OBJECTIVE: To describe the application of the Aldrete scale in post-anesthesia recovery in patients after elective surgery at Chiquimula Hospital, from April to June 2025. METHOD: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out using a data collection form that included general information and the parameters of the Aldrete score. Patients were evaluated every fifteen minutes until reaching a maximum score of nine points, as indicated by the scale, in order to estimate discharge time. A total of 136 patients underwent elective surgery and were taken to the postanesthesia recoveryroom. RESULTS: Muscle activity was the main factor determining discharge time. 23% of patients reached the maximum Aldrete score within the first thirty minutes, while 14% achieved the maximum score after two hours. Regarding the level of consciousness, 67% of patients responded within the first 15 minutes, while 1% responded after 60 minutes.CONCLUSION: The usefulness of the Aldrete score in the postanesthesia recovery room was demonstrated, as it optimizes time and space for admitting new patients, while allowing for proper periodic evaluation of patients and helping to prevent future complications.
