Determining Factors of Daily Living Activities for Elderly Who Requires Assistive Technology to Become Smart Senior

The relatively rapid increase in the number of elderly people has an impact on various problems that arise which affect the daily life activities of the elderly. The independence of the elderly in carrying out daily life activities will support towards SMART (Healthy, Independent, Active and Productive) elderly. To determine the determinant factors of Activity Daily Living (ADL) of elderly people who need Assistive Technology. The research design is descriptive analytical with a cross sectional design with a sample size of 86 people. The research was conducted in 3 (three) locations, namely the Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 1 and 3 Social Homes and at the Tresna Werdha Ria Pembangunan Sasana in the East Jakarta area. The measuring instrument uses a standard questionnaire, namely the elderly ADL measuring instrument, Mini Mental Examination State (MMSE), Morse Fall Scale (MFS) and BERG balance function assessment. The statistical tests used are Chi-Square and Multiple Logistic Regression. The results of the study showed that the majority were middle aged, female, widowed/widowed, had low education, had >2 chronic diseases and had a duration of illness >2 years. There were 4 (four) independent variables related to ADL, namely duration of illness, cognitive impairment, balance impairment and risk of falls (p value < 0.05). The determining factor for ADL in the elderly is balance disorders (p value = 0.03). The aging process experienced by the elderly can result in difficulties in carrying out daily activities and make the elderly's living habits worse. The number of health problems in the elderly is getting worse and the number of accidents and falls is increasing. This shows that the elderly need assistive technology to minimize balance disorders so that the elderly remain healthy and independent in carrying out activities.
