Ultrasound-assisted Synthesis of YbSnO Nanoparticles Embedded in Nanofiber Composites for Biomedical Applications

Cancer remains one of the leading causes of mortality globally, with oral squamous cell carcinomas being significantly impacted by various risk factors, including tobacco and alcohol use, infections, and nutritional deficiencies. Despite advancements, ccurrent diagnostic and therapeutic approaches often have limitations, necessitating the need for novel approaches that enhance treatment efficacy while minimizing adverse effects. In this context, Ytterbium Tin Oxide (YbSnO) nanoparticles were synthesized via a wet chemical method and subsequently integrated into nanofiber cellulose (NFC) composites. The resulting YbSnO/NFC composites were characterized using X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The FE-SEM images revealed uniform dispersion of YbSnO nanoparticles within the NFC matrix. Cytotoxicity assays indicated a dose-dependent reduction in cell viability, with YbSnO@NFC composites exhibiting the highest cytotoxicity (p < 0.05), suggesting enhanced interactions between the components. Then the Gene expression by RT-PCR was examined in A549 cells seeded at a density of 5 x 106 cells per well in 100 mm culture plates. After overnight incubation, total RNA was extracted using the Total RNA Isolation Reagent (TRIR; Abgene, UK). These findings support the promising potential of YbSnO/NFC composites in biomedical applications, particularly in targeted cancer therapies.

Abstract

After overnight incubation, total RNA was extracted using the Total RNA Isolation Reagent (TRIR; Abgene, UK). These findings support the promising potential of YbSnO/NFC composites in biomedical applications, particularly in targeted cancer therapies.
