Şehir Kimliği İnşasında Soundscape’in Rolü ve Trabzon’un Musicscape’si

The aim of this study is to explore the auditory characteristics of the soundscape in Trabzon’s city center and its touristic areas, and to reveal the role of the musicscape—comprising musical sounds—within this soundscape in the construction of urban identity. In this regard, the study not only examines how the categories of geophony, biophony, and anthrophony are interrelated and experienced in Trabzon’s soundscape, but also investigates the purposes for which musically produced sounds are created within this acoustic environment. Furthermore, the research addresses how the city’s distinctive soundscape and the role of music within it contribute to the construction of urban identity by its inhabitants. The study analyzes the unique elements of Trabzon’s auditory environment and explains the place of music within this context. During the data collection phase, audiovisual recordings were made in selected central and touristic locations in Trabzon. These recordings were analyzed and categorized according to the conceptual and theoretical framework established through a literature review. Among the auditory elements associated with anthrophony, musical sounds emerge as one of the most prominent components in Trabzon’s sound and musicscape. These musical sounds, like local dialects or oral expressions, serve as tools for constructing identity and function as integral elements that shape the soundscape and evoke a sense of place.
