Novel knowledge propagation optimization (KPO) algorithm for grid-tied PV system

• Novel Knowledge propagation optimization technique is proposed. • The KPO algorithm consistently demonstrates competitive and superior performance compared to benchmark algorithms such as GA, TLBO, SGO, and many others in terms of convergence and adaptability. • KPO optimizes PI controller gains, ensuring DC bus stability during dynamic conditions. • Grid-integrated PV system with APMEE-based VSC control enhances performance under grid, load, and PV irregularities. • Hardware-in-loop results validate the performance of the proposed sytsem This paper presents a novel knowledge propagation optimized single-phase, single-stage grid-tied PV system. Single-stage configuration burdens voltage source converter (VSC) with maximum power point tracking and DC-AC conversion. Single-stage topology offers enhanced efficiency at a lower cost, as boost converter is omitted; however, DC bus voltage ( V d c ) variations become prominent during dynamic conditions. Higher V d c ripples during dynamic conditions, questions stability and power equilibrium at DC bus, injecting second harmonic component, which reduces power quality of overall system. A novel meta-heuristic, Knowledge Propagation Optimization (KPO) technique is proposed for DC bus regulation to ensure DC bus stability. KPO delivers optimal gains of PI controller implemented for DC bus regulation. KPO tuned DC bus elevate system's execution multifold, i.e., V d c variations minimization, suppression of second harmonic component and DC bus improved stability during dynamic conditions. VSC uses affine projection minimum error entropy (APMEE) based adaptive control. APMEE-based control extracts fundamental current components out of distorted load current in presence of nonlinear load. In addition to DC-AC conversion, APMEE offers superior filtering capability, faster convergence, and lower steady-state error. APMEE allows system to operate under diverse conditions, irradiation variation, load variation, and PV-DSTATCOM to DSTATCOM and vice versa. Performance of APMEE improves with KPO tuned DC bus, maintains grid side total harmonics distortion below 5% as per IEEE1547 standards.
