First record of the spider genus Diphya Nicolet 1849 (Araneae, Tetragnathidae) and new species from northern Peru

Spiders of the genus Diphya (Nicolet) are characterized by having tibiae-tarsi I and II with stiff, curved prolateral setae. Currently, the genus comprises 21 species, six of which are recorded from America: the type species and three others from southern Chile (one also recorded in Argentina), one from Ecuador, and one from Brazil. Based on males and females collected in a montane forest in Cañaris, Lambayeque, northern Peru, a new species of Diphya, D. muchik sp. nov., is diagnosed, described, and illustrated. This represents the first record of the genus in Peru.
