Görkemli Tabağın Ardındaki Yoksulluk Hunger Filminde İktidar, Gösteri ve Etik Direniş

This article examines the concepts of class, power and subjectivation through the critical film analysis methodology of the 2023 film Hunger by Sisisiri Mongkolsiri. The film is about a young female chef who aspires to rise in the gastronomy world and tries to overcome class boundaries, cultural power mechanisms and ethical dilemmas. The transition of the protagonist Aoy from traditional cuisine to ultra-elite cuisine is not only a professional success story but also a process of ideological conflict, identity construction and individual subjectivation. Throughout the film, food becomes not only a biological need but also a signifier of social status, class representation and object of power. The authoritarian kitchen structure constructed through the character of Chef Paul shows how aesthetics and domination are intertwined. The article analyzes the film in a multi-layered manner within the framework of Michel Foucault’s biopolitics, Judith Butler’s subjectivation and Homi Bhabha’s hybridity theories. This research, which was conducted using the critical film analysis method, aims to analyze power structures through food representations and contribute to the field of cinema from a cultural-political perspective. In this context, the study reveals that gastronomy-based narratives in cinema carry not only taste or visual aesthetics but also ideological implications.
