EFFECT OF OPERATING PARAMETERS ON THE PERFORMANCE OF A SEGMENTAL-BAFFLED SHELL-AND-TUBE HEAT EXCHANGER BY EMPLOYING THE BELL–DELAWARE METHOD
Shell-and-tube heat exchangers with segmental baffle (STHX-SB) are frequently used across industries.Their performance is determined by the thermo-hydraulic characteristics, which depend on inlet conditions, flow conditions, and the geometry of the shell and tube sides.A mathematical model was developed to solve the governing equations, utilizing MS Excel16.The program predicts the performance of the STHX for shell-side heat transfer coefficient (hs), pressure loss (Ps) and the performance ratio (hs /Ps) by employing the Bell-Delaware approach. This method showed the best reliability against experimental results. The aim of the study is to analyse the influence of variations in tube layouts namely 30, 45and 90, mass flow rate and six different fluids with their properties. The findings of the investigation indicate that heat transfer coefficient and pressure loss increases, while the value of (hs /Ps) decreases as the M.
