Neželjeni efekti opštih anestetika (Side effects of general anesthetics )
General anesthesia is important for performing numerous surgical procedures, but it can cause various unwanted effects, from mild to serious. This paper aims to provide an overview of the most common and rare complications associated with general anesthesia, relying on the relevant literature and the results of our own research. As part of the work, a separate survey was conducted. Research among 50 patients who underwent general anesthesia, who were divided according to age (18-30 years, 31-45 years, 46-60 years, 61-75 years and over 75 years) and gender (male and female). Of the total number of respondents, 50% stated that they had no problems waking up, while a significant number (32%) stated that they did not remember that part of the experience. Only a small part of the respondents (16%) reported concrete difficulties waking up from anesthesia. The most common adverse effects were nausea (58%), vomiting (36%), sore throat due to the use of the breathing tube (38%), shivering (20%), dizziness (16%), difficulty urinating (14%), and confusion or disorientation (4%). It is important to note that 22% of the subjects did not experience any adverse effects after anesthesia. Adverse effects of general anesthesia are mild and transient, and their frequency and severity require careful monitoring and an individualized approach to each patient. The most important thing you can do to prevent adverse effects of anesthesia is to ensure that an anesthesiologist is involved in your care.
