Optimal graphene platelet reinforcement for filament wound imperfect cylinders under axial compression
The influence of graphene platelet reinforcement on the buckling behavior of optimal axially compressed filament-wound imperfect cylindrical shells is investigated. Linear and nonlinear buckling parameters are determined using degenerated shell finite element models, where eigenmode imperfections are replaced with equivalent nodal loads. Following a verification study, an optimal design study is conducted results of which show that reinforcing the surface filament-wound layers with graphene platelets can increase the limit load by up to 30% for both perfect and imperfect cylinders provided that the Batdorf- Z parameter is relatively high.
