Kenan Sevinç, İnançsızlık Psikolojisi
Kenan Sevinç's work, The Psychology of Unbelief, is one of the pioneering studies in Turkey that systematically addresses the issue of unbelief from a psychological perspective on religion. The author approaches unbelief not merely as an individual worldview but as a multidimensional process shaped within various demographic, social, emotional, and intellectual contexts. The book was prepared based on the author's doctoral thesis. The main argument emphasized in the book is that unbelief is not an intellectually driven change but a change that develops within the framework of social and emotional influences. This study comprises two surveys and one interview study, which were conducted using a mixed-methods design that combines quantitative and qualitative approaches. The first survey was conducted in the US with 2,548 participants, and the second survey was conducted in Turkey with 502 participants. Additionally, interviews were conducted with 32 Turkish and foreign samples, providing a comparative framework. A total of six scales are included, including those adapted into Turkish by the author and those developed by the author. In the first section of the three-part work, the theoretical framework of the concepts related to the subject is evaluated. In the subsequent sections of the book, the findings of the fieldwork are analyzed in depth. The study criticizes existing reductionist approaches to unbelief and makes important contributions to the field at both the theoretical and methodological levels. Psychology of Unbelief is an original and pioneering work that focuses on a neglected topic in Turkey and makes a valuable contribution to the literature.
