El alabastro como soporte material y materia de creación

The fundamental and significant objective of this dissertation is to present the personal artistic contribution of our research and creation using alabaster, to address the binomial of matter/material from the natural and cultural perspectives. This focus is on listing and presenting the various research and creation projects developed based on the conceptualization of alabaster. Therefore, we take a historical and creative look at the technical, expressive, and conceptual possibilities of alabaster, a material defined by its visual language, color, texture, origin, etymology, manufacture, and so on. From ancient times to the contemporary era, the use of this luminous material can be understood as a material support and material for meaningful creation. The research focused on four varieties of alabaster and their material planes with distinct qualities. Alabaster presents distinct qualities and attributes, becoming a spiritual material through its physical presence and through its luminous intensity and translucency, which transcends its significance beyond its immediate use as an object support. Fundamental concepts of the plastic language of alabaster include natural, perceptual, visual, haptic, semantic, expressive and conceptual factors that operate in the transformation of matter and the conformation of form through the matter/form dualism.
