Reward Management and Employee Performance in Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS) 2015-2023

This study was undertaken to examine the effect of rewards management on employee performance in Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS). The study adopted Expectancy theory developed by Vroom in 1964 as its theoretical framework. Descriptive survey research design was employed for the study. The target population and sample for the study was 254 staff of Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS). Data were collected using structured questions with 4-point Likert scales. Data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics of percentages and means, and inferential statistics of Simple Regression Analysis with the aid of statistical package for social science (SPSS). The findings revealed that all the variables (pay-based rewards and job satisfaction; performance recognition and employee engagement; and promotion and work quality) yielded significant and positive effect on each other. The study concluded that effective rewards management has significant and positive effect on employee performance. The study, therefore, recommends that ESBS should make available to workers an appropriate reward system that is commensurate with the present economic challenges to enable its employees to perform at optimum. ESBS should endeavour to provide employees with adequate pay reward to facilitate the achievement of desired high productivity; and ESBS should make available varieties of promotional opportunities in order to significantly engage their employees.
