Sürdürülebilir Su Kaynaklarının Korunmasına Yönelik Madencilik Faaliyetlerinde Alınacak Önlemler: Sivas Kuzeyi Örnek Bir Çalışma

This study evaluates the environmental impacts of mining activities on surface and groundwater resources through a case study located in the northern part of Sivas province and offers solutions for sustainable water management. The geological, hydrogeological, and climatic characteristics of the region were thoroughly examined, and strategic approaches for the preservation of water systems were proposed. Field observations and literature-supported studies revealed that marble and limestone layers form significant aquifer environments due to their high permeability, while low-permeability serpentinite units serve as natural hydrogeological barriers. It was determined that only 3% of the region's annual precipitation infiltrates into the groundwater, indicating a highly limited recharge capacity. The study concluded that detailed hydrogeological modeling, water budget assessments, and pollutant dispersion analyses should be conducted before initiating mining activities. Additionally, it emphasized the importance of storing waste and tailings in controlled areas away from surface waters. This study highlighted that mining activities should not only focus on economic gains but also consider ecological and hydrogeological balances.
