Implementation of Modified SOBEL Edge Detection for Brain Tumor Detection in MRI Using FPGA
One of the most crucial components of image processing techniques is edge detection. It adds value when filtering out unwanted areas of an image. Several edge identification techniques, such as sobel, prewitt, laplacian, and roberts, have been developed for image processing applications. In this work, we explore the FPGA implementation of sobel edge detection, examining various factors related to the algorithm mentioned above. Additionally, we introduce a new modified sobel edge detection algorithm. The effectiveness of this modified sobel algorithm is evaluated. The analysis data shows that the modified Sobel edge recognition algorithm gives better results than the traditional methods, as it requires less time to recognize the edges of different images. Similarly, modified Sobel edge recognition differently increases edge sensitivity for the borders of the tumor, enhances edge precision for the tumor contour, gives better results for the noise in MRI images, changes to the non-standard shape of the tumor, raises edge strength for better detection of the tumor, and finally increases the speed of the computation in FPGA implementation.
