Robust Virtual Inertia Control of a Microgrid Using Quantitative Feedback Theory
The Penetration of wind and solar power in micro-grids diminishes system inertia through inverter interfaces thus affecting the stability of frequency and resilience of the power grid. The study suggests using a Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT) based virtual inertia control strategy which handles various operating conditions effectively. The QFT controller performs better than conventional PI/PID, Internal Model Control and pole placement approaches in frequency stabilization and disturbance rejection by adapting to changing inertia and load failures as well as damping variations. The QFT controller in MATLAB/Simulink delivers minimal frequency distortions together with rapid steady state responses. Loop-shaping with Nichols chart analysis provides the QFT controller with protection against uncertain parameters. QFT proves its ability to enable model-independent robust microgrid control, helping to create resilient sustainable power system networks.
