Moodulator: An Integrated IoT and Chatbot Solution for Stress Management

Stress is a growing concern in today's fast paced world, and insufficient access to mental healthcare, as well as the stigma associated with seeking help, necessitates real-time monitoring and intervention solutions that are more widely accessible to users. Moodulator is an integrated IoT and chatbot-based system designed for stress management. It continuously monitors physiological signals, including heart rate, body temperature, and Galvanic Skin Response (GSR), using wearable sensors. These signals are processed using machine learning models to classify stress levels, leveraging Random Forest classifiers to boost accuracy. The system integrates a chatbot that uses natural language processing (NLP) to offer empathetic responses, guided breathing exercises, and stress-relief techniques. The chatbot is fine-tuned with mental health conversational data, ensuring effective communication. Additionally, the system includes an SOS feature that triggers emergency intervention based on critical physiological signals, repeated suicidal ideation in chatbot interactions, or a direct user request for help. The Moodulator interface is built with a database for storing sensor readings, enabling seamless integration between hardware and software. Future enhancements include incorporating accelerometer-based activity recognition, refining chatbot linguistic capabilities, expanding datasets for improved classification accuracy, and developing a compact wearable device for continuous real-time monitoring. Additional features such as sleep pattern analysis, a customizable chatbot avatar, and telehealth integration for professional consultations are also under consideration. While it can never replace professional support, only enhance it, Moodulator aims to reduce the bottlenecking of mental healthcare services while offering timely and reliable support to users experiencing stress and emotional distress.
