Analysis of Coupled Inductor Based Full Bridge Dual Active Bridge Isolated Converter for Electric Vehicle Charging

A coupled inductor based full bridge dual active bridge (CIFBDAB) isolated converter is proposed in this article. The proposed model is consist of a buck-boost bidirectional DCDC converter in the primary configuration and an H-bridge as the secondary configuration. In order to make the isolation between primary and secondary configuration, a coupled inductor is utilized. The coupled inductor also transfers the power from the primary to the secondary side and vice versa. The high frequency (HF) transformer is eliminated by the coupled inductor, which gives an advantage of reduced components counts and cost of the proposed converter. In this work, a comprehensive study of proposed converter is illustrated and further it is validated with the help of MATLAB simulation in comparison to the conventional dual active bridge (DAB) converter. The proposed CIFBDAB achieved an output voltage, 170 V, and output current, 1.7 A, at 100 kHz switching frequency with the improved rise time of 0.1 sec. Hence, the finding shows that the proposed CIFBDAB isolated converter is more efficient and optimal as compared to conventional DAB converter.
