Design and Modeling of Inductorless Symmetric 9-Level Switched Capacitor Multilevel Inverter
This paper presents a switched-capacitor multilevel inverter (SCMLI) designed to overcome the limitations of traditional multilevel inverters (MLIs) in renewable energy conversion applications. Traditional MLIs are often hindered by high-voltage stress on switching devices and a large component count. The proposed SCMLI addresses these issues by utilizing a switchedcapacitor structure that achieves voltage self-balancing without auxiliary methods with reduced voltage stress on the switches. A novel output voltage realization method is also introduced that helps in bucking operation. To demonstrate the advantages of this topology, a nine-level single dc source SCMLI prototype is modeled and simulated under various load conditions using MATLAB Simulink, validating its performance.
