Speed and Torque Control Analysis of PMSM Motors Using a Fuzzy Logic-Based PID Controller
Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are used in different industrial and domestic applications because of their high power density and efficiency. In order to achieve optimal driving performance, it requires robustness and flexibility in terms of control methods. The classic proportional integral-derivative (PID) controllers often fail to deal with the uncertainties and nonlinearities associated with the PMSM system. This paper suggests that the use of fuzzy logic control (FLC) can lead to better speed and torque control in PMSM drives. Further, it reduces steady-state error, overshoot, and improves the transient response of the PMSM motor. The inherent capabilities of FLC to manage uncertainties and nonlinearity also strengthen the dynamics related to the performance of PMSM drives.
