Optimal Allocation of DG to Enhance System Reliability, Resiliency and Power Quality Using Optimization
Power distribution system resilience plays a crucial role in maintaining uninterrupted and dependable power delivery during disruptions caused by natural disasters, equipment failures, or sudden increases in demand. This study conducts an extensive evaluation of the impact of distributed generation (DG) on power system reliability and resiliency. It assesses reliability indices, voltage stability, and power loss reduction under three scenarios: without DG (base case), with the African Vultures Optimization Algorithm (AVOA) and with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The study utilizes on a 94-bus radial distribution system (RDS) and integrates AVOA and PSO within DIgSILENT power factory to determine the optimal locations and sizes of DG units. The DG integration yields significant improvements in system reliability indices, enhances voltage profiles and reduces both active and reactive power losses. The study also examining the effects of total harmonic distortion (THD). Proper sizing and placement of DG systems successfully reduces excessive harmonics, ensure a stable and high-quality power supply.
