The Impact of Removable Partial Dentures on Periodontal Tissues and the Psychological State of Patients

Removable partial dentures, used in the treatment of partial edentulism, allow the restoration of the integrity of the dental arch, improvement of masticatory efficiency, aesthetic appearance, phonetic function, and prevention of tooth migration, functional disorders of the TMJ, masticatory and facial muscles, metabolic and psychological disorders. At the same time, they can represent a significant danger to the remaining teeth and their periodontium, the alveolar bone, the mucosa that covers it and the mucosa of the oral cavity, can increase the manifestations of gingivitis and periodontitis, favor the mobility not only of the supporting teeth, but also of the teeth of the opposing dental arch, increase the incidence of dental caries and represent a negative impact on the psychological state of patients.
