Highly efficient electrooxidation of biomass-based furfuryl alcohol to 6-hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-6 <i>H</i> -pyrano-3-one over Zn–Al bimetallic oxides
ZnO(<i>x</i>)/Al2O3 composites with a nanocrystalline-amorphous structure were synthesized <i>via</i> a co-precipitation strategy for the efficient electrooxidation of biomass-based furfuryl alcohol to high-value-added 6-hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-6<i>H</i>-pyrano-3-one. High selectivity (87.0%) and faradaic efficiency (79.7%) were achieved. The potential mechanism was proposed.
