Myanmar Depreminin Dijital Medyada Temsili: Çerçeveleme Kuramı Bağlamında Bir Haber Analizi
Environmental disasters are complex, multifaceted events that profoundly impact not only natural ecosystems but also economic, political, and social structures. Disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and wildfires trigger significant transformations within societies and are communicated to broad audiences through media coverage. The framing techniques employed in news reporting play a critical role in shaping public perception and the societal impact of these events. The earthquake measuring 7.7 magnitude that struck Myanmar on March 28, 2025, caused considerable loss of life and destruction, while also generating extensive international media attention. This study aims to examine the representations of the Myanmar earthquake in digital media through the lens of framing theory. A total of 100 news articles published on the Google News platform between March 28 and April 20, 2025, were analyzed using quantitative content analysis. The study systematically assessed the highlighted elements, themes, and framing patterns used in earthquake-related news. Findings indicate that 47% of the examined articles predominantly employed a humanitarian crisis frame, followed by disaster and destruction narratives at 20%, intervention and crisis management at 12%, disaster information and risk communication at 12%, and regional and global impact framing at 9%. The results reveal that environmental disasters are primarily represented in digital media through narratives of victimization and dramatization, while technical information and scientific content are comparatively limited.
