Quality of life and resilience in individuals with disabilities: a thematic analysis of literature
This thematic analysis explores the link between resilience and quality of life (QoL) in individuals with disabilities. An electronic search across six databases identified 19 studies, appraised with the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. Six themes emerged, highlighting how resilience relates to QoL. Self-efficacy, found in 12 studies, appeared as a key pathway: individuals with greater self-efficacy reported more confidence in managing disability-related challenges, leading to better adjustment and QoL. One study noted that participants who believed in their capacity to overcome barriers also described higher life satisfaction. Overall, resilience and related strategies significantly influence QoL, underscoring the importance of recognizing individuals’ capabilities across diagnoses to support their contributions to their own well-being.
