The article examines international and Ukrainian experiences in ensuring gender equality and combating gender-based violence in higher education in the context of Ukraine’s successful postwar recovery as a state with European values. The most effective measures for ensuring gender equality and combating violence are considered. The leadership of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA) among higher education institutions (HEIs) in Ukraine in implementing the Strategy for Gender Equality in Education by 2030—particularly in the field of education management aimed at ensuring gender equality and combating violence—is substantiated. This is related to a broader context, as the article discusses the specific case of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, which was revived in 1992 and has become an example of a systematic approach to ensuring gender equality and combating violence in higher education. Since its revival, the university has been implementing gender equality principles, integrated into educational and academic processes. Particular attention is paid to the development of gender studies and feminism, which are taught in various departments of the university, promoting students’ sensitivity to issues of non-discrimination, respect for diversity, and critical thinking grounded in democracy and tolerance. It was established that the components of the mechanism for managing and implementing policies to combat gender-based violence and ensure gender equality at NaUKMA include research and relevant recommendations, educational events and information campaigns to raise awareness of the issue, handling of complaints about policy violations, collaboration and joint projects with other actors in the process of ensuring the quality of education, as well as cooperation with the media to raise public awareness about the policy. The successes and challenges of implementing gender equality policies in higher education management in Ukraine are summarized using the case of NaUKMA.
