IMPACT OF AL2O3 NANOPARTICLES ON THE EMISSION AND PERFORMANCE OF DIESEL ENGINES POWERED BY BLENDS OF DIESEL AND USED TEMPLE OIL BIODIESEL

Research on the use of nanoparticles has shown impressive results in a variety of application areas, from the treatment of environmental degradation to the use of medicine. Alumina nanoparticles are added to diesel and biodiesel mixtures in this study. Examining the effects of Al2O3 nanoparticle integration in diesel-biodiesel blends on the performance and emission characteristics of diesel engines was the main goal of the current investigation. A minimum of fifteen different biodiesel blends were made for trial, and two concentrations of alumina nanoparticles (25, 50 ppm) were incorporated into the diesel. To accomplish a practical effect, no nanoparticle stabilizer was used in the dispersion. The diesel and biodiesel were blended at high speed shearing, and the ultrasonication process was used to distribute the nanoparticles throughout the mixtures. The resulting mixes were tested at three different compression ratios and at a set RPM using a single-cylinder diesel engine. Software based on LabView was used to measure the brake-specific fuel consumption (BSFC) and brake thermal efficiency (BTE) for fuel samples. An external gas analyzer connected to the engine's exhaust vent was used to calculate CO and unburnt hydrocarbon (UBHC) emissions. The investigation's findings indicate that with the addition of Al2O3 nanoparticles, enhanced engine performance was achieved together with reduced toxicity of the exhaust emitted from the engine. Additionally, including alumina nanoparticles served to reverse the declining performance associated with the blending of biodiesel. Consequently, greater compression ratios achieved superior nanoparticle inclusion results over the lower ones. Accounting demonstrated that the Al2O3 nanoparticle is a valuable addition to fuels meant to improve the profitability of diesel engines and reduce harmful exhausts.
