Impact of Tourism Development on Employer Share: A Gendered Perspective
This study examines the impact of tourism development on the growth of the employer share across genders in 20 OECD countries from 2002 to 2020. Using Panel Corrected Standard Errors (PCSE), Dynamic Common Correlated Effects (DCCE), and Panel ARDL models, we examine short- and long-run gender-differentiated outcomes. Findings reveal that tourism development significantly increases both the male and female employer share in the long run, while showing no significant effect for males in the DCCE estimation. In the short run, however, tourism development negatively affects the male employer share and has no impact on females. These results suggest that while tourism promotes inclusive entrepreneurship over time, its short-term benefits are unevenly distributed. The findings highlight the importance of designing gender-sensitive policies that address institutional barriers and enable equitable participation in tourism-driven employer share growth.
