Eco-friendly synthesis and photocatalytic application of CeO2 nanoparticles for tetracycline degradation

In the present work, CeO 2 nanoparticles were prepared using a green synthesis route and employed as photocatalysts to degrade tetracycline in aqueous media. The synthesized CeO 2 NPs were characterised by XRD, FESEM-EDX, TEM, UV–Vis-DRS and BET analysis. The CeO 2 NPs exhibited a crystallite size of approximately 14 nm, a bandgap of 2.86 eV, and a surface area of about 45.837 m 2 /g. TEM analysis confirmed the particle size to be around 25 nm. To evaluate the photocatalytic activity, experiments were conducted under various parameters such as photocatalyst dosage, contact time, visible light irradiation, initial dye concentration, and scavenger tests. The results revealed that the CeO 2 NPs achieved a 93 % degradation of tetracycline within 75 min, indicating a high potential for photocatalytic applications in wastewater treatment.
