Design and Implementation of Concept-Based Inquiry Learning Based on the 2022 Revised National Curriculum
Purpose: This study aimed to concretely present the design of concept-centered learning units based on a concept-based inquiry learning model that aligns with the direction of the 2022 Revised National Curriculum. The research specifically applied this model to Social Studies and Music units for grades 3~4 in elementary school and analyzed its feasibility and educational validity. Methods: Building on the theoretical strengths of concept-based inquiry learning, the study developed a practical instructional design model that classroom teachers could implement. This model was applied to selected units in Social Studies and Music. Three approaches to inquiry-inductive and deductive approaches to propositional knowledge and an approach to procedural knowledge-were integrated into lessons to promote learners' conceptual understanding and transfer. The validity of the developed instructional model was examined through focus group interviews (FGI) with elementary school teachers. Results: The findings revealed that teachers perceived the design model as helpful in structuring lessons and facilitating step-by-step implementation, while effectively promoting students' conceptual thinking and engagement. At the same time, some teachers pointed out limitations such as the difficulty of defining concepts and generalizations, inconsistencies in assessment design, and the need for prior teacher training. Conclusion: These results indicate that concept-based inquiry learning can serve as a practical alternative aligned with the teaching and learning direction of the 2022 Revised National Curriculum. To enhance teachers' professional expertise and strengthen curriculum implementation, it is necessary to refine terminology, provide concrete examples, and ensure systematic training and institutional support. This study is significant in that it offers a practically applicable concept-based inquiry learning model, thereby contributing foundational resources for classroom innovation and successful curriculum implementation.
