Review on the Form Generation of Flexible Design Pattern usingParametric Design

The Flexible Design Pattern (FDP) possesses both morphological flexibility and visual diversity. However, traditional manual approaches to design development impose temporal and physical constraints on expressing such visual diversity, particularly in the repeated demonstration and combination testing stages, where inefficiencies are pronounced. Therefore, this study aimed to digitally implement the formation of FDP using parametric design techniques. By employing Grasshopper, we examined methods to quantitatively and non-linearly control the positional variations and interactive structures of the compositional units (cells). The node design, centered on components such as Fibonacci sequence–based unit division, Rotate (with specified center), Mirror (with specified axis), Move (with specified vector), and Jitter (random), demonstrated through simulation that visual diversity and the flexibility of pattern combinations were significantly enhanced. Consequently, the FDP algorithm was proven to be a tool capable of radically expanding efficiency and expressive potential in the processes of design education, development, demonstration, and marketing.
