Book Fusion Design Based on AR (Augmented Reality)Technology : Centered on “The Story of Materia Medica”
With the advent of the convergent media era, Augmented Reality (AR) technology has been increasingly applied across various fields. Integrating AR into book design can partially overcome the limitations of traditional print media in knowledge delivery and create spatial and immersive cognition, thereby redefining the reading experience. This study focuses on the integrative innovation of AR technology and book design, with traditional medicinal plants as the central theme, and systematically examines AR content development, interaction design, and practical application in the book design of “The Story of Materia Medica”. Through literature review and case analysis, the current status of AR technology and AR books was explored. Subsequently, “The Story of Materia Medica” was selected as the research subject, and innovative approaches to book design incorporating AR were proposed. Specifically, AR content was developed based on three-dimensional modeling of medicinal plants and integrated with book design to achieve practical application. User experience and implementation effectiveness were analyzed and evaluated using the PSSUQ scale and CSAT data. The study results can be summarized in two aspects. First, the integration of AR technology with “The Story of Materia Medica” provided readers with a novel reading experience, strengthening the emotional connection between readers and book content, and facilitating more vivid and engaging knowledge delivery and cultural dissemination. Second, the feasibility of integrating AR technology with book design was verified, demonstrating that AR offers innovative potential by overcoming spatiotemporal constraints in book media and enhancing knowledge delivery efficiency, thereby suggesting new directions for the future development of book design.
