THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MATERIALITY AND EMOTIONAL RESPONSE FROM INTERACTIVE BOOKS
This study aims to observe how a book's materiality could influence the emotional response of the reader. In this study, modifications of a book design were mapped to multiple interpretations in the expressed emotion of the story text.Nick Bantock's book, "Griffin and Sabine: An Extraordinary Correspondence" was digitized and given alternate endings by modifying the graphic elements of a few final pages of the book. However, the text was not altered in any way.The readers were asked to describe their emotions using the PrEmo toolbox (Desmet, 2009) and responding to questions about the story they observed.
