The article is devoted to the study of the problem of eschatologism in the prose of S.D. Krzhizhanovsky, which is recognized as one of the defining problems for Russian expressionism. The specificity of the manifestation of the death motive during the critical period of social development in the 20s of the last century is revealed. It is proved that the destruction of the previous world is one of the fundamental moments of the vitalistic concept of expressionism, which presupposes the subsequent revival of life on fundamentally different grounds.
