A Socio-Economic Radiography of the North-East Region
The North-East development region – the largest of Romania’s eight NUTS II structures – is considered the poorest, despite the numerous economic and cultural opportunities it could benefit from. The causes of underdevelopment form a vicious circle that includes the general demographic deficit and the labor force deficit in particular, lower wage incomes than in other regions, and modest infrastructure. The migration phenomenon and inadequate professional training to the realities of the labor market perpetuate a development gap against which we do not have, for now, effective public policies.
