Congenital nasal pyriform aperture stenosis (CNPAS): A case report
Congenital nasal pyriform aperture stenosis (CNPAS) is a rare condition of upper airway obstruction in neonates and early infants. The obstruction is in the most anterior part of the nasal airway due to overgrowth of the maxillary bone. CNPAS may manifest as an isolated anomaly or in association with other malformations. Depending on the extent of obstruction, symptoms of CNPAS vary and may include feeding difficulties, episodes of cyanosis, and respiratory distress that improve with crying. Conservative management of CNPAS is often sufficient, but surgical intervention is warranted in cases of severe obstruction or failed medical treatment. We report a case of an infant with CNPAS associated with mid-nasal narrowing, deviated nasal septum, and a hypertrophied inferior turbinate requiring surgical intervention.
