The podcast is discussed as a means of communication that gives rise to counter-power, echoing Manuel Castells's proposal for a theory of power in the information age based on the theory of power in the information age based on the management of horizontal and interactive communication networks through the internet. He calls this theory mass self-communication. A bibliographical survey was carried out on the themes discussed and commentators on the theory that underpins the text for the theoretical debate. It is understood that podcasts, by enabling the audience to produce their own content or propose spaces for discussing topics of interest to them, open the possibility of generating counterpower through self-communication, as proposed by the author. Podcasts would function as a far-reaching, low-cost antidote to the disinformation and content repeatedly broadcast by traditional media, reconfiguring the soundscape and creating opportunities for the disaffected, particularly the so-called "minorities," to cease being mere recipients.
