Ruínas de cinemas suburbanos: aspectos hauntológicos entre destituições, tecnostalgias e limiares cinematográficos

The article discusses the case of the ruins of three cinemas in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro - Cinema Rosário/Ramos, Cinema Santa Helena/Olaria and Cine Rio Palace - and how the abandonment of these spaces reflects social projects that foster socio-spatial, economic and cultural exclusion, alienating the “rights to the city” and erasing suburban memory. We explore the concepts of “cinematographic thresholds” and “technostalgia” to analyse the transformations of sidewalk cinemas since the end of the 20th century. In addition, we think of the notion of “ruin” as a prismatic concept and use the idea of “hauntology” to reflect on the spectral presence of such ruins, connecting their decline to broader issues of urban and cinema memory.
