Computer vision algorithms to differentiate appendicitis from non-specific abdominal pain in the emergency department: A narrative literature review

Objective: To analyze the use of computer vision algorithms to differentiate appendicitis from nonspecific abdominal pain in emergency care. Literature Review: Acute abdominal pain is generally self-limiting and benign, such as in gastroenteritis, constipation, or viral infections. However, the medical challenge lies in identifying and identifying patients with unusual and potentially life-threatening symptoms who require urgent assessment and treatment due to appendicitis, intussusception, volvulus, and adhesions. Artificial Intelligence is a branch of computer science that aims to develop systems that simulate the human capacity to perceive a problem, identifying its components to solve problems, and then propose and/or make decisions based on them. Final considerations: There is a consensus regarding the effectiveness of technology in medicine and public health, since the complexity of modern medicine exceeds the inherent limitations of the human mind. Thus, A.I. has the ability to process data and generate responses to aid in the differential diagnosis of appendicitis and nonspecific abdominal pain.
