Optimizing Water Usage: Intelligent Irrigation via AquaSense

This paper presents the development of a soil moisture monitoring system using an Arduino Uno microcontroller for real-time soil moisture feedback. The system is designed for agricultural, greenhouse, and home gardening applications, aiming to optimize water usage and promote healthy plant growth. A soil moisture sensor measures the soil moisture level, and the data is displayed on an LCD screen for easy monitoring. Based on the moisture readings, the Arduino controls three LEDs (Blue, Orange, Red) and a buzzer to indicate different moisture conditions: “WET” (Blue LED) for moisture above 500, “NORMAL” (Orange LED) for levels between 151 and 499, and “DRY” (Red LED and buzzer) for moisture below 150, signaling the need for irrigation. Additionally, a water pump is activated when the soil is dry and turned off when the soil is wet. This cost-effective and easy-toassemble system provides a practical solution for small-scale irrigation, with potential for future enhancements such as wireless connectivity for remote monitoring.
