Enhancement of Power Quality in Edge-of-Grid Systems: MCCF-SRF Based Control for Dynamic Load Compensation
Power quality issues (PQI) are a significant challenge in edge-of-grid systems, particularly when dynamic loads are involved. This paper explores key PQIs such as voltage regulation, total harmonic distortion (THD) reduction, and power factor (PF) improvement under dynamic load conditions, utilizing a Voltage Source Inverter (VSI)-based Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF). A SelfExcited Induction Generator (SEIG) is subjected to various dynamic loading conditions and analyzed using the proposed control scheme. The study utilized a modified complex coefficient filter (MCCF) to generate alpha-beta signals for the Synchronous reference frame (SRF), while replacing conventional PLL with QTI-PLL to achieve reduced settling time. The MCCF-SRF scheme is developed and tested against load perturbations, demonstrating notable improvements over existing control approaches, including MCCFbased dual fundamental component extraction (DFCE) and conventional SRF control schemes. A fractional-order PID (FOPID) controller is integrated into the system to regulate the DC voltage of SAPF and maintain SEIG's terminal voltage. The system is validated through real-time simulations, and the results are thoroughly discussed to highlight performance enhancements.
