Preserving the Integrity of the Scholarly Record: The Role of Post-Publication Updates
Madhura Amdekar, Community Engagement Manager from Crossref, was the first speaker and began by providing an overview of what is meant by the "scholarly record".The scholarly record refers to the network of not only the outputs that are published at the end of a research process, such as journal articles or books, but also all the connected inputs that were used to create these outputs (for example datasets and preprints). 1 This record forms the foundation for the scholarly community to build upon and expand the realms of human knowledge. Therefore, the importance of preserving the record's integrity by ensuring that it is accurate and up to date cannot be stressed enough.Scholarly metadata has a central role in this process because it provides evidence and context for each of the components of the scholarly record. As data about other data, scholarly metadata provides information about scholarly works: it includes basic bibliographic information that describes the work, such as names of authors, title, dates, DOI, and location URL; as well as additional information about the work, such as ORCID iDs of authors, ROR IDs for institutions, funding information, and relationships between this work and others (preprint, peer review reports, translations, versions). When this and more information about a work are openly
