The development of a theoretical model for the relationship between friendship quality, academic resilience, and self-compassion for students at Taibah University Yanbu branch in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

The aim of the current study is to develop a hypothetical theoretical model of the relationship between friendship quality, academic resilience, and self-compassion among students at Taibah University in Yanbu in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. To achieve the study goal, the researcher applied the friendship quality scale prepared by Al-Ghabasha and Al-Thawabi (2023), the self-compassion scale prepared by Hassan (2022), and the academic resilience scale prepared by Benishek et al. (2005) to a sample of (220) students at Taibah University (Yanbu branch) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The results indicated that the proposed hypothetical model had a good validity and reliability. The results also showed a statistically significant relationship between friendship quality and academic resilience, between academic resilience and self-compassion, while the relationship between friendship quality and self-compassion was not statistically significant. Finally, the study recommends more giving attention to studying the relationship between psychological variables, and to Implement guidance programs for students on academic resilience and self-compassion, as both play an important role in improving students’ mental health.
