The idea of philosophical counseling from a self-education perspective

<ns3:p>The article revolves around the concept of philosophical counseling from a self-education perspective. It aims to present the idea of philosophical counseling in the context of ancient philosophical sources (Socratic tradition) and inspirations from Polish philosophy (B. Skarga). For this purpose, in the article, I present (1) the relationship between the Socratic idea of self-knowledge and contemporary philosophical counseling, (2) the characteristics of L. Marinoff’s model of philosophical counseling as an approach emphasising the value of self-knowledge and the possibility of philosophical treatment of everyday life, (3) the anthropological dimension of B. Skarga’s philosophy referring to three types of “vigilance”. The presented analyses enable such an approach to philosophical counseling in which it is understood as support in self-education process conceptualized within a pedagogical framework.</ns3:p>
