Social Correlates of Mental Well-being in Adolescents. An Analysis of Secondary Data from the 2023 “Relationality of Youth” Study.

<ns3:p>Suicide rates or the prevalence of mental health disorders compel reflection on the poor mental condition of Polish youth and further research diagnosing correlates of mental well-being. The aim of this article is to analyse the current mental well-being of young people and to identify its possible correlates. The author's original Scale of Mental Wellbeing (SDP) will be used for this purpose. Its correlation with three social levels (macro, meso and micro) will be verified and translated into three research hypotheses. These refer, in order, to the impact of social pressure, social capital and family relations on the psychological well-being of young people. The basis for the verification of the hypotheses is data from the study entitled “Relationality of the Young” conducted at the Generation Institute in 2023. The statistical analysis applied made it possible to verify the aforementioned hypotheses. All three social factors are associated with SDP levels, with it being excessive social pressure that is most strongly correlated with low levels of psychological wellbeing. The other two - peer relationships and early family relationships - have weaker correlations with SDP levels. At the same time, lower levels of mental wellbeing were diagnosed in girls than in boys.</ns3:p>
