Unveiling digital temptations in modern workspaces: a PRISMA-guided investigation on cyberloafing
Purpose In the contemporary and post-pandemic business landscape, cyberloafing behaviour (where employees use the internet for personal purposes during work hours) has garnered significant scholarly attention. This study aims to systematically review and analyse the existing body of literature on cyberloafing, identifying key research trends, influential contributors and potential gaps in the field. Design/methodology/approach This study integrates bibliometric and content analysis using a data set of 204 articles retrieved from the Scopus database, spanning the past two decades. To ensure robust insights, the analysis uses two complementary tools: the command-based Bibliometrix package in R and the interface-based VOSviewer software. This study further uses network diagrams and cluster visualisations to uncover intellectual structures, co-authorship networks and thematic developments within the domain. Findings The analysis identifies leading authors, key journals and seminal works that have significantly shaped the discourse around cyberloafing. The visualisations and network analyses reveal major research clusters, emerging themes and underexplored areas, offering a structured overview of how the field has evolved. Originality/value This study integrates Scopus data with VOSviewer and the Bibliometrix R package in a transparent, reproducible workflow, applied to recent employee-focused literature and providing a clear basis for future investigations in technology-driven work contexts.
